LOCK

After hearing Emma’s words, a whirlwind of emotions swept over me. I felt anger, disbelief, and a deep sense of betrayal by those I had always trusted. But I couldn’t let my emotions get the better of me—not now. Emma needed my support more than ever.
As soon as the doctor returned, I reassured Emma that everything would be okay. I told her I would handle it and that she should focus on her recovery and the baby. We discussed immediate steps to ensure her safety.
The first thing I did was call a locksmith to change the locks on our house. This was a small step, but it was vital to make Emma feel secure again. I promised her that no one would have access to our home without her consent.
Next, I uploaded all the photos from the dinner onto a secure cloud storage. These images were crucial—they were the only evidence of what had happened. I made sure they were safe and would be accessible if we needed them in the future.
I also decided we needed legal advice. I contacted a lawyer who specialized in family law. I wanted to know what our options were, to protect Emma and our child. The lawyer was understanding and patient, explaining the steps we could take to ensure our safety while keeping the situation as low-profile as possible.
Back at the hospital, I stayed with Emma, assuring her that she was not alone. I kept my phone on silent, ignoring the barrage of messages and missed calls from family members. Each beep felt like a reminder of the fracture in our family, but Emma was my priority now.
Emma was still shaken, but she seemed relieved knowing that plans were in place. She was quiet, but I could tell she was processing everything. I promised her that we would get through this together.
Towards the end of the day, Emma asked about our future. She was worried about the baby and how this situation could affect us in the long run. I told her that we would take it one day at a time, and that we would make decisions together. Our family was now our priority—Emma, the baby, and me.
I couldn’t ignore the fact that my own family had been involved in this. Caleb’s participation cut the deepest. I knew I would need to confront him, but that could wait. Right now, I needed to be strong for Emma and our unborn child.
Before leaving the hospital for the night, I reassured Emma that I would be back first thing in the morning. We shared a moment of quiet understanding, knowing our journey wasn’t over yet. I knew there was still a lot to unravel, and many conversations needed to happen.
As I left, I posted a message on Facebook. I briefly stated that Emma was resting and thanked everyone for their well-wishes. I hinted at more updates in the future, knowing many would be curious about what happened next.
