“I laughed when I spotted my ex-wife walking alone down a deserted road outside Franklin,

I sat there, completely stunned. How had I been so blind? My mind raced as I tried to make sense of everything. Megan had tried to tell me the truth, and I had turned her away. Claire had been manipulating me the entire time, and I had let her. The realization was like a punch to the gut.

I knew I had to find Megan. I needed to apologize, to beg for her forgiveness. Most importantly, I needed to know about the third baby. My heart ached at the thought of a child I never knew existed.

I got back into my car and drove aimlessly for hours, replaying every moment of the last year in my mind. I knew what I had to do, but the thought of confronting Claire made my stomach churn. She was the woman I planned to marry, yet she had betrayed me in the worst way possible.

When I finally pulled into my driveway, it was late at night. The house was dark and silent. Claire must have gone to bed, oblivious to the bombshell that had been dropped on my life. I took a deep breath, steeling myself for the confrontation to come.

Inside, I found Claire curled up on the couch, asleep. I watched her for a moment, feeling a mix of anger and sadness. How could she do this? How could she lie so easily and destroy so many lives?

I shook her awake gently. Her eyes fluttered open, and she smiled sleepily at me. “You’re back,” she murmured.

“We need to talk,” I said, my voice cold and distant.

She sat up, suddenly alert. “What’s wrong?”

I dropped the folder of evidence onto the coffee table. “I know everything, Claire. About Megan, the setup, the babies. Everything.”

Her face went pale, and she looked away. “Rowan, I can explain—”

“Explain what?” I interrupted, my anger rising. “How you ruined my marriage? How you lied to me for an entire year? How there’s a third child out there that I don’t know about?”

She opened her mouth, but no words came out. The silence stretched between us, heavy and suffocating. I stood up, unable to look at her any longer. “I don’t want your explanations, Claire. I want you out of my life.”

Tears filled her eyes, but I turned away, not willing to let her manipulate me any further. I had wasted enough time, believing in lies and deceit.

The next morning, Claire was gone, leaving behind only an empty closet and a note apologizing for her actions. But her apology meant nothing to me now. I had more important things to focus on—finding my children and Megan.

I spent the next few days searching relentlessly. I knew Megan had no reason to trust me, but I hoped she’d give me a chance to make things right. I needed to know about the third baby, and I needed to be a father to the twins.

The private investigator I hired was already working on tracking Megan down. I knew it wouldn’t be easy, but I was determined. I would find her, and I would do whatever it took to earn back her trust.

As I sat in my office, staring out the window, I realized how much my life had changed in such a short time. I had lost everything, yet I had gained something far more important—a chance to rebuild my life, to become the father I should have been from the start.

And this was just the beginning. There was still so much more to uncover, so many questions left unanswered. I couldn’t shake the feeling that the mystery of the third baby would lead to even more revelations.
