My six-year-old daughter whispered, “Daddy, if I sit down, it hurts down there,” while my

My heart pounded in my chest as I stared at Victor’s image on the screen. The audacity of him showing up at my doorstep filled me with anger and fear. Lily was safe in her room, but I knew that facing him now was unavoidable.

I took a deep breath and pressed the intercom button. “I’ve already called the police, Victor. You need to leave.”

Victor’s face twisted into a mocking smile. “Michael, let’s not make this worse than it has to be. We can resolve this like adults.”

My mother, standing slightly behind him, looked anxious. “Michael, please. You’re overreacting.”

“Overreacting?” I said, struggling to keep my voice steady. “Lily is terrified, and I saw the bruises. I heard his voice on her toy. You can’t ignore this.”

Victor’s expression hardened. “You’re confused. Children imagine things. Let’s talk inside.”

I knew letting him in would be a mistake. “I’m done talking. The police are on their way.”

Victor exchanged a glance with my mother. “Patricia, this is exactly what we discussed. Michael has always been unstable. He’s just projecting his fears.”

My mother’s face was conflicted, torn between her loyalty to Victor and the reality she refused to see. It was like watching someone fight with themselves, unsure which side to choose.

I heard sirens approaching, the sound growing louder and more reassuring. “Victor, leave. I won’t let you hurt her again.”

His eyes narrowed, finally realizing that I wouldn’t back down. He pulled back from the intercom, turning to my mother. “Let’s go, Patricia.”

My mother hesitated, then looked back at me through the screen. “Michael, I—”

“Mom,” I interrupted, “if you can’t see what’s happening, I can’t help you. But Lily comes first.”

Victor walked out of the camera’s view, and my mother reluctantly followed, her expression a mix of confusion and sadness. The sirens stopped, and moments later, police officers arrived at my door.

I explained everything, from Lily’s words at dinner to the evidence on the toy. They listened carefully and assured me that Victor would be questioned. They also mentioned a social worker would visit to talk to Lily in a safe environment.

After the officers left, I sat in the quiet of my apartment, the weight of the day’s events pressing down on me. Lily’s trusting face filled my mind. She needed to know I’d always protect her, no matter what.

As I sat there, I knew this was only the beginning. There would be more questions, more challenges, and a part of me feared what else we might discover. But I was determined to face whatever came next, for Lily’s sake and for my own.

The road ahead was uncertain, but I had to believe we’d find some peace. Victor might have thought he could manipulate his way out of this, but he underestimated the power of a father’s love for his daughter.
