When I regained consciousness, I was lying on the kitchen floor. My body ached everywhere, but I could hear a faint, familiar voice calling my name. It was Alex. He had received my message.
The front door burst open, and Alex stormed in. His eyes filled with fury as he took in the scene before him. Victor, startled, dropped the stick he was holding and backed away. Helena, Raúl, and Nora froze, their cruel expressions replaced by fear.
“Alex!” I croaked, reaching out to him. Relief flooded me as he rushed to my side, his strong arms lifting me gently.
“You’re safe now, Sarah,” he said softly. His voice was calm but carried an edge of steel. “No one will hurt you again.”
Victor tried to regain his composure. “This is a family matter,” he blustered, attempting to sound in control. “You have no right to interfere.”
Alex turned to him, his voice deadly quiet. “You lost that right the moment you laid your hands on her. The police are on their way.”
Helena and Raúl exchanged nervous glances, their arrogance melting away. Nora, realizing the gravity of the situation, stopped filming and put her phone away, her face pale.
“I won’t let you take her,” Victor growled, trying to muster a semblance of bravado.
Alex stepped forward, his posture confident and intimidating. “Try stopping me, and you’ll regret it,” he warned, his military training evident in his stance. Victor faltered, realizing he was outmatched.
With Alex’s help, I got to my feet. My legs trembled, but I felt a new strength surging through me. I looked at Victor, his parents, and Nora, seeing them for what they truly were—bullies who thrived on fear and control.
“You can’t control me anymore,” I said, my voice steady. “I’m leaving, and I’m taking my baby with me.”
The sound of sirens grew louder, and soon the police arrived. They quickly assessed the situation, taking statements and gathering evidence. Victor, Helena, and Raúl were taken into custody, while Nora was questioned for her role in the abuse.
As I stood by the front door, watching them being led away, I felt a mixture of emotions—relief, sadness, and an overwhelming sense of freedom.
Alex stayed by my side, his presence reassuring and protective. “You’ll be okay,” he promised. “We’ll get through this together.”
I nodded, grateful beyond words for his timely arrival. “Thank you, Alex,” I whispered, tears of relief streaming down my face. “I don’t know what I would have done without you.”
He hugged me tightly, and for the first time in months, I felt safe. As we left the house, I knew the road ahead would be challenging, but I was determined to rebuild my life for myself and my child.
The support from friends and family poured in once they heard what had happened. Offers of help, a place to stay, and words of encouragement reminded me that I wasn’t alone.
And although this chapter of my life had ended, the story was far from over. There was more to come, more battles to fight, and more victories to achieve.
