In the days that followed, Blackwood Manor remained the same on the outside—grand and imposing with its tall columns and sprawling gardens—but within its walls, a quiet rebellion simmered. My father, ever the tyrant, continued his reign, oblivious to the subtle shifts happening under his own roof.
I spent my mornings enduring their commands, playing the part of the obedient daughter. But in the quiet moments alone, I began to weave my plans. I knew their routines, their weaknesses, and most importantly, where they kept their secrets.
One evening, after the house had settled into silence, I crept into my father’s study. The polished mahogany desk was cluttered with papers. Among them was a folder marked with the family crest. Inside, I found documents that detailed the family’s finances and investments. It was information I could use to my advantage, and the seeds of my escape began to take root.
I returned to my room, clutching the papers close. As I studied them, I realized how much power they wielded over me. With this knowledge, I could begin untying the knots that bound me to this place.
My mother and father were too consumed with their own lives to notice the small changes. My mother busied herself with social events, draped in her designer clothes, while my father entertained business associates, unaware that the walls were closing in on him.
Each day, I grew bolder. I made copies of the documents and began to reach out to contacts outside of the manor. Friends I hadn’t seen in years suddenly became allies, ready to assist in my quiet revolution.
Kyle, my brother, remained indifferent, his arrogance blinding him to the shifting tides. He was too absorbed in his own world to see the cracks forming around him. I knew he would be the easiest to fool, should he ever catch on.
One night, as I sat in my room, a knock at the window startled me. It was Marcus, a friend from the past who once shared my dreams of freedom. He had received my message and was here to help.
“I’ve got everything ready,” Marcus whispered as he climbed inside. “The car, a place to stay—it’s all set. You just say the word.”
I nodded, grateful for his loyalty. “Not yet,” I replied. “I need a little more time to set things right.”
And so we waited, our plans slowly taking shape. The anticipation grew, fueling my determination. I knew that when the time came, I would not only leave Blackwood Manor but also take down the empire my parents held so dear.
The house continued its restless slumber around us, unaware of the storm brewing within its walls. My parents remained blissfully ignorant of the reckoning headed their way.
But this was just the beginning. The fall of the Thorne dynasty was near, and I would be the architect of its downfall.
